“Black Widow” Movie Review

Marvel is back on the big screen again with its latest addition to the cinematic universe, Black Widow. Fans finally get to see more about Natasha Romanov’s (Black Widow) story with more insight on her past.

The movie takes place right after the events of Captain America: Civil War and leads right into Avengers: Infinity War. Viewers learn what Black Widow was up to while the Avengers were temporarily broken up.

Black Widow starts off with one of the best and most intense opening scenes in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. For years, fans had little to no knowledge of Natasha’s family and backstory. The film does a great job at showing her relationship with her family and how she ended up becoming the strong fighter fans know and love her as.

Natasha-Romanov-and-Yelena

Aside from telling Natasha’s story, the movie introduces a new, key character to the MCU, Yelena. Like her sister, Yelena is skilled in combat and has had a similar backstory. The two team up together alongside their parents to fight the Task Master. Yelena is a great addition to the movies and is already a lovable character. Scarlett Johansson and Florence Pugh were a great pairing on screen, so it’s a shame we won’t get to see the two together again.

The biggest issue in Black Widow is the villain. The Task Master doesn’t stay true to the comics origin, which can be a bit controversial to fans. Other than that, the movie was a solid addition to the MCU and a satisfying swan song for Scarlett Johansson. Be sure to stay through the credits for a scene that will have you surmising plenty of theories!
