I remember the first time I looked into going to Disney. I dreamt of seeing my child light up at the wonder of seeing her favorite characters come to life in person. I also vividly remember the sticker shock and intimidation I felt as I realized how much planning and work it took to get a Disney vacation squared away. Dining reservations, FastPasses, transportation reservations, PhotoPass, the My Disney Experience app and learning to navigate it. As a single dad, I was overwhelmed but also determined to figure it all out. This was back in 2012 and my daughter was turning 5 years old.
Fast forward to now, as a single dad I have learned tips and tricks for travel, how to find the best deals on rooms, make FastPasses, etc. As a single parent the most intimidating factor is that it’s just you with the kids. How do you find the energy? Cue a solid travel agent for one!
Secondly, finding a schedule that works with your child’s normal routine is extremely helpful. Lose the urge to try to “do it all” and focus on doing it right. Make your dining reservations in advance, book your FastPasses and more. Most importantly finding time for breaks and relaxation at your resort is also key.
My daughter and I have bonded more over our vacations together than anything else we do, because we have taken the time to learn how to make them fun and memorable. Yes it costs money to do things, but we know it all doesn’t have to happen right now. We share laughs and we plan things together. For a Disney newbie or first timer, let your travel agent guide you and help you plan an amazing vacation. Parenting on vacation can be hard; for a single parent it can be super intimidating. Getting a top-notch travel agent is like having a parent with you to deal with issues as they arise, so you can focus on your child.
Single parent travel doesn’t have to be intimidating and that’s what I’m here to help you with. Reach out to a travel professional today. I personally specialize in single parent vacation planning.
